GROUPLOVE (all capped) is a Los Angeles based band that adopts a lot of the idioms of '90s alt rock but also picks up elements from more contemporary indie rock. Their music does not fit into a single pigeonhole as they appear to have multiple threads going on simultaneously, which gives them stylistic breadth. Some of their songs are all out anthemic fist pumpers, others are instantly likable gentle pop pieces, and then they have the "rock out like it's the '90s" songs that have all the rebellious and noisy charm of the grunge era. All these choices are made well and executed with a genuine spark. They also have solid backing on the melodic front. Catchy, but not overly so, the band has a knack for knowing how far to push the sweetness. Vocalists Christian Zucconi and Hannah Hooper swap leads most of the time. Their work in the '10s tended to lean more in the pop direction.
