Fievel is Glauque
Outline
Fievel is Glauque is a duo formed by vocalist Ma Clément and keyboardist Zach Phillips, whose work combines lo-fi, '70s style fusion jazz with '60s French pop sensibilities. Their songs tend to be quick pieces that typically clock below the two-minute mark or just thereabouts. Phillips is a terrific instrumentalist with a bit of a Chick Corea touch every now and then, especially in his quick cuts. Clément, on the other hand, has a quiet and restrained delivery, and provides a lot of the texture and melody to the music, matching Philliips' syncopation with her shifts on the vocals. Even though they operate mostly in the jazz format, they also happen to be stylistically close to Stereolab, with the same kind of cool factor that permeates their music.
