Dumpstaphunk is a New Orleans based band that was started by keyboard player and singer Ivan Neville, who brought together some of the veterans of the NOLA scene. The band features not one, but *two* master bass players and singers in Tony Hall and Nick Daniels III ... because why not? The result is the absolute monster of a funk band that it promises to be. Their overall approach is more on the rock side. There is some old school R&B in there for sure, but Ian Neville's guitar work often dives right into the blues/rock hybrid mode when he takes off. Likewise, the band's funky drummer, Deven Trusclair also happens to play with some rock swagger. All that aside, Dumpstaphunk is a funk band through and through and one that plays at a level that is directly comparable to some of the legendary bands of the past, such as The Meters and Booker T. & the M. G.s.
Trombone Shorty, The Fearless Flyers, Seratones, The Motet, classic funk greats including The Meters, Dr. John, Tower of Power,
The Nevilles in the band come from New Orleans' practical royalty, the Neville family: Ivan Neville is the son of Aaron Neville from The Neville Brothers, while Ian Neville, his cousin, is the son of Art Neville from The Meters.
Going through the whole list of musicians the band members played with would be enough to fill a whole phone book. Let's say that includes the who's who of the last half century of giants from all genres.
