Chief Cleopatra

Chief Cleopatra (born Jalesa Jessie) is an indie rock artist based in Austin whose music combines traditional blues oriented rock with elements of soul introduced primarily by her rich and nuanced vocal delivery. She has lately been framing her arrangements around '80s pop idioms, which gives her the structured foundation to have fun swinging her vocals. It is a wonderfully textured voice that walks the line between the genres with great ease. Her songwriting is particularly sharp. Her partnerships thus far have been remarkably guitar centric thus far, from her collaboration with Leonard Martinez and his mellow, jazzy tunes on her first EP, Lesa X Lenny Vol 1, to her more recent work that is built on bluesy grooves.
