Chief Adjuah
Outline
Trumpeter Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah (formerly Christian Scott) has been bending genres one way or another since he emerged in 2006 as an artist who incorporates rock and post-rock textures into his modern jazz, sometimes extending more overtly into fusion. His anchor was generally set in the post-bop, modal jazz style for the most part, with a good amount of the New Orleans style mixed in. That began to change in 2012 as he pushed further into his roots with a name change and turning his attention towards his Black Indian heritage (of the Xodokan nation) and the West African sound. Later on, he shifted from trumpet to ngoni and kora on 2023's Bark Out Thunder Roar Out Lightning, while his music continued the political path it has been on for a while.
