Buff Ginger

Buff Ginger is a project by singer-songwriter (and visual artist) Ry Minter, who creates scrappy music with a purely DIY approach anchored around a rough, art rock sound and a strong, highly distorted form of shoegaze. The gravitational pull of the latter is evident in the way his style progressed in the course of his first three EPs, where his cloud of haze that started out in 2021's My Social Security Number as stripped down but scuzzy alt-rock, gradually turned into full-size wall of fuzz in 2023 with New Jokes. His music has an abrasive edge for sure, and it is loud and at times ferocious, but it also enjoys an understated melodic quality that keeps it sharp, comparable to bands like Knifeplay and TAGABOW.
