Brandon Coleman is a Los Angeles based keyboard player who draws a great deal of inspiration from the electric jazz and funk fusion of the late '70s, and especially, the more pop and disco oriented work of the great Herbie Hancock. He frequently plays the keytar and incorporates a vocoder into his vocals in a way that aligns well with the sound of that particular period. The funk shines brightly in his music for sure. His bouncy, upbeat, light on the feet moves may also recall the classic catalog of acts like Stevie Wonder and Zapp. Outside of his solo recordings, he has been collaborating with a number of west coast jazz artists regularly over the years, including Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, and Flying Lotus.
