Bastille is a London-based pop quartet with strong synth pop tendencies and an epic sound that has more or less been their calling card over the years. They play boisterous and joyful, dance-friendly music with big, instantly accessible melodies. As a band, they operate at a high level energy that is a perfect match for stadium size venues. Their music feels fully pumped up and on a roll even when they have not kicked into their high gear yet. That said, the band, or rather their singer and main songwriter Dan Smith, displays a quiet earnest interest in social issues for a band that is so locked into the pop world, and he has a particular point of view that he is happy to serve with a spoonful of sugar. Their recent albums find them playing around with R&B-driven ideas.
