Bark Culture
Outline
Also known as Victor Vieira-Branco's Bark Culture, this is an ensemble led by São Paulo raised, Philadelphia based vibraphonist Victor Vieira-Branco, who likes to engage in an intricate, rhythmically and harmonically adventurous form of jazz. They play in a fully acoustic set up wrt their instrumentation. The addition of pianist Sam Yulsman to their initial trio on 2025's The Giant Is Awkward gave them a broader sonic palette, which also coincided with their bigger push towards a more progressive direction. They now lean more heavily into an unsettling, angular style and more overtly drifting into a semi-chaotic state with some regularity in the flow of a piece.
The trio was joined by Sam Yulsman on piano for their second album, The Giant Is Awkward (2025).
Vieira-Branco also plays with Exploding Star Orchestra and Chad Taylor Quintet.
