Balthvs

Balthvs is a trio whose music, mostly instrumental, reaches into a surf rock meets a laid back mixture of traditional music of West Africa and Middle East, along with some Latin, soul, and light funk. They have an omnivore's appetite for a diverse range of musical traditions and the know-how to create a distinct and singular musical style out of them. When all this is combined with the way their music oozes chill vibes at every turn, it becomes obvious why Khruangbin is an apt point of reference for them. Bassist Johanna Mercuriana and drummer Santiago Lizcano play lockstep as they hold down the groove with a bit of funk as guitarist Balthazar Aguirre drives the songs often with a clean guitar sound, though with some reverb and on occasion with a bit of a glorious wah wah pedal. Their music is said to have psychedelic undertones, but then, to be fair, psychedelia is sometimes in the eyes of the beholder.
