Astrid Sonne

London base Danish composer, producer, and viola player Astrid Sonne is an experimental musician who builds her work around synth-oriented electronic sound that integrates her classical training and modernist tendencies into contemporary pop techniques. She often follows a minimalist path that opens up the space for her emotional and melodic reflections. She took an interesting turn on her 2024 album Great Doubt, towards a more conventional songs structure with vocals, lyrics, a verse-chorus flow, and more overt rhythms … sometimes driven by propulsive drumming. It was a bit of a departure for her, though not too much, since she did not move away from the core explorative character of her work.
