Anna Meredith is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who has been creating music that is primarily electronic in nature but keeps art rock within reach and contemporary classical music in its back pocket. Her musical roots are in the latter: she has proven herself in orchestral classical music and has plenty of awards to show for it. Her artistic growth since then has taken her to a territory that covers the range from avant-garde to synth pop. She broke out with 2016's Varmints which was was an orchestral/electronica hybrid in many ways. Her 2021 album, Bumps per Minute, is a conceptual work meant to be enjoyed through the shuffle function. Her 2018 work with Scottish Ensemble, on the other hand, is a re-conceptualized version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons that brings modern instruments into the sound as the seasons progress.
