Allah-Las is a four-piece indie band whose music is a throwback amalgamation of '60s psychedelic pop, jangle pop, surf rock, garage rock, and folk, which is a potent collection of genres any combination of which would be instantly identified as the essence of "California cool". Their music is quite laid back and mellow. It may not be Beach Boys exactly, or The Byrds,Love, Spirit, etc, but the spirit of the era is fully up front and center in their music. The guitars jangle with the '60s shimmer (as opposed to the '80s), the vocals are hazy, and the harmonies are dead on. They have not changed their overall sound since their early days except for bringing in more influences to draw from, bringing some Grateful Dead into the mixture, moving on to a more CSNY compatible style, and most of all, their songs now occasionally hint at an as yet unrealized interest in jamming. Their songwriting and delivery have also become much crisper over time.
