Alex G

Alex G is Alexander Giannascoli, a singer-songwriter based in Philadelphia, who was known as (Sandy) Alex G previously. His early work was rooted deeply in the lo-fi tradition of home recordings. His approach to songwriting and recording appears heavily influenced by the late great Elliot Smith, although stylistically, G is pretty much his own man. Especially his early recordings come across as sketches of songs in rough draft, but they are filled with ideas, they are imaginative and experimental, but generally understated. His songs are usually intimate affairs with a somewhat muffled delivery. They are melodically strong but because they tend to be subtle, they may not come across as immediately obvious as pop songs. That said, his songwriting has become more relatively more easily accessible in later years.
