El Rey Theatre

El Rey Theatre (or "The El Rey" ... because, why not?) is an old theater in the Wilshire area in Los Angeles, built originally as a movie theater in 1936, with an Art Deco design that reflects the style of the period. It was converted into a dance club in the '80s and its interior arrangement, with booths on both sides and an open space in the middle, has been retained when the place was relaunched as a musical venue in '94. The raised platforms on the sides around the booths area are useful for folks who may not be as tall as others in the show. It is a lovely space with good acoustics, and usually showcases indie bands, whether rock or pop.
