Xylouris White is the duo Georgios Xylouris, a master laoute player from Greece (Crete, to be more precise), and JIm White, a master drummer from Australia (Melbourne, to be more precise). Together they make music that is somewhat eclectic and draws a good deal from the traditional music of Crete, which they then put through an experimental lens. The result is music with a strong improvisational component that does not fit any genre categories. Some of the songs have a nice melodic core, often with an elegiac tone, while others are more free-floating and may or may not land on a groove. Their work is fascinating, to say the least, and perhaps intended for the adventurous fan or those already familiar with Greek music.
