W.I.T.C.H. (which stands for "We Intend To Cause Havoc", and is also referred to as WITCH) is a band that emerged in Zambia during the early days of global rock in the '70s (see Zamrock), which combine regional polyrhythmic beats with heavy rock music. They started out with garage rock tones originally, grew into a sophisticated rock band, and gravitated towards a funky style that used a lot of disco elements. They were a trailblazing band very popular in their homeland and neighboring countries at the time but did not quite break out in the west until their current resurgence. Vocalist Emanyeo "Jagari" Chanda and keyboardist Patrick Mwondela are the only remaining members currently active.
The original release dates of their discography is as follows: Introducing (1972), In the Past (1974), Lazy Bones (1975), Lukombo Vibes (1976), WITCH (1977), Movin' On (1980), Kuomboka (originally 1984), the first five compiled as Witch: We Intend to Cause Havoc! (2012, Now Again Records).
