The Wedding Present is a veteran post-punk band that started out in 1985 and has been operating in some form or another till the present day. The only constant in the band is the singer/guitarist and main songwriter David Gedge. Their classic sound until their hiatus in 1997 builds on uptempo jangly guitars, a steady bass beat and attacking drums that are familiar from the bands of their generation, such as The Jam, The Smiths and so on. After the band was reformed in 2005, the basic idea remained the same, but the flavor started shifting towards the post-90s garage inspired tones. Later recordings saw the inclusion of a wider array of styles, such as expansive, almost cinematic sounds, as the band kept reloading on through line-up changes.
Cinerama, Gang of Four, Felt, Wire
David Gedge ended The Wedding Present in '97 and formed Cinerama, which lasted till 2004, at which point, he reformed The Wedding Present.
