underscores (all lower case) is April Harper Grey, a singer-songwriter with a highly eclectic approach who visits emo, pop-punk, dubstep, and garage punk, as she maintains pop with big, bold gestures that border on hyperpop at times. She is a creative artist who pinballs between styles from one song to another, employing a variety of contemporary pop effects, often in an emphatic manner. Her albums can be a little dizzying for that reason. She is also fond of the glitch effect, and likes to incorporate spoken phrases into her music, typically as rhythmic elements that play as background mantras for the most part. Her songs are melodically fairly strong, though without necessarily going overboard into the bubble gum territory.
