100 Gecs

100 Gecs are essentially the experimental pop duo (Dylan Brady and Laura Les) pushing hyperpop to its logical next step. They start by amping up the autotune and sonic distortion that is part of the genre (see Charli XCX) and speeding up the tempo to a frantic pace in a way that the songs feel overclocked, each lasting no longer than 2 minutes and change, and the auto-tuned vocals playing at a helium-high. They also take fragments of music in genres that are sometimes diametrically opposed to pop and interlace them into their songs. These quick cuts can be charged up segments of death metal, industrial, techno, and maybe even some circus music along with some found sound, practically whatever happens to be within reach. The result is a disjointed, jarring, and very deliberately chaotic in a way that makes it both an exhilarating work of pop and a pile of hot mess at the same time by design.
