Tropical Fuck Storm, aka TFS, is a genre-crossing band from Melbourne that takes elements of indie rock, art punk, punk jazz, and a noisier version of psychedelic rock, and combines them into a choppy, fragmented stream of sonic punch. Their music goes beyond having a a hard edge and being dark in tone. It is music that deliberately evokes a sense of dread and discomfort. It is energetic and loud; it moves along unpredictable paths. That said, the band does a great job in the execution and one can see quite a bit of imaginative ideas going into the the songs. The members have the musicianship to pull that melange off effortlessly and produce a compelling sound. Their sudden turns or changes in texture come across as purposeful and thought-out. They do not sound forced of show-offish. Their catalog is well worth exploring.
