Titan to Tachyons is a band that plays a mixture of jazz-metal, progressive rock, fusion, and acid jazz, arguably with some math rock flavors thrown into the mix. Their sound does not naturally fall into any clear pigeonhole, to be sure. It is a complex, loud, avant-garde, improvisational (and instrumental) sonic explosion filled with whiplash inducing shifts and cacophonic build-ups that alternate with melodic, even ethereal interludes and contemplative jazz-fusion segments. It is a style of music that works best in the hands of skilled musicians who know what they are doing and have the chops to pull it off, all of which the band has in abundance. They are led by guitarist Sally Gates, who regularly shreds, sludges, and dances on the fretboard with a tinge of Allan Holdsworth, then goes on to get tender, emotional cadences on her instrument, sometimes all in the span of a single piece.
