Tank and the Bangas

Tank and the Bangas are a band that mixes R&B, soul, hip-hop, jazz, and funk into one glorious stew of pure exuberance, led by vocalist Tarriona Ball. Their work has a free flowing, spontaneous quality that turns each song into a mini-adventure across the American musical landscape. The heart of the band is Ball herself, an exciting, irrepressible performer and an exceptional singer in both skills and power. She is expressive as a vocalist and effective as a rapper. She also brings an undeniable sense of stage presence to the music, adding to the band's almost childlike wonder and charm. The instrumentalists in the band are in synch with her every step of the way, and they also happen to be excellent performers. The band has a reputation for being quite a live band. Their big break came when they won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2017.
