Duma

Duma (meaning "darkness" in Kikuyu) is a grindcore duo based in Kampala, Uganda, but are originally from Nairobi's growing metal scene. Their music has the basic features of the genre: it is especially aggressive, with drums pounding like a rapid jackhammer, vocals alternating between guttural growls and high pitch shrieks. What they do is to bring the layer of electronic fragments, looped tapes, and occasional trap beats. It is not driven primarily by percussion and sound effects instead of the guitar though. There is not much of a melody anywhere in sight. There is anger in the music as par the course with the genre, but it feels more like an artistic statement than fuming rage. The songs are in a mixture of English and Sheng.
