Tami Neilson is a singer-songwriter and a country artist originally from Toronto but based in Auckland. Her roots are in traditional country, with an affinity for classic artists like Patsy Cline. Her repertoire has a wide range, including honky-tonk and rockabilly, but also soul and gospel. In regard to the latter two, she happens to be a certified force of nature as a vocalist with the kind of power, volume, and timbre that is right up there in the same ballpark as Amy Winehouse. Her music did not change much direction over the years, but her overall sound naturally grew increasingly more distinct and idiosyncratic as she also became more confident as a songwriter. At the end of the day, she is a ferocious singer, an artist with a broad stylistic variety, and an amazing talent all around who for some reason, has not become a household name yet.
