Stromae is the stage name used by Belgian singer-songwriter Paul van Haver. He is primarily an electronic and dance oriented pop artist with an exceptionally clear and pure voice. He emerged in 2010 with Cheese, an album that was fully committed to house style dance music with those syncopated synth bursts reminiscent of C+C Music Factory's unforgettable "Everybody dance now!". His musical horizon expanded quite a bit in his subsequent work as he started to wear his influences (and sophistication) on his sleeve more openly. Some songs explored the modern French Chanson territory (see the legendary Jacques Brel), others had sprinkled in various Latin beats, African vocals, as well as some hip-hop and rapping. He achieved that diversification in sound without taking any step back from his sharp focus on producing high quality dance music.
