Rose City Band

Rose City Band is a Portland, OR based band led by vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Ripley Johnson, whose music takes on country rock infused, more or less conventional forms in a consistently laid-back flow and a jam-oriented style. Whereas his other bands, Moon Duo and Wooden Shjips have a significant psychedelic component to their work, that is not so much the case with this outfit, except perhaps a hint of it here and there, particularly when the band takes off in the jamming direction. There is often a languid vibe to their delivery, a relaxed tempo and a loose feel. The job that Barry Walker does on the pedal steel guitar is also worth mentioning in the way he adds a welcome twang to what is essentially a familial sound.
