Robert Ellis is a keyboardist, guitarist and singer-songwriter who embraces Americana with all its diversity and scope. Country is generally his home base for sure, but he also ventures out into rock and takes up acoustic folk pieces along the way ... not to mention a level of jazziness that seeps into his music every now and then. Piano is his first instrument and the one he turns to in a grand fashion in his 2019 album, Texas Piano Man, where he dives right into old school piano driven pop music, occasionally treading gently into a parallel Joe Jackson/Billy Joel dimension. His songs usually have good hooks and solid melodies that serve his sharp and insightful lyrics, perhaps a bit cutting at times, but always approaching from a humorous angle.
