Papooz

Papooz is the guitarists Ulysse Cottin and Armand Penicaut whose music is a mixture of the soft side of pop jazz and a good amount of '70s west coast style soft rock with an occasional nod at Latin grooves and disco-adjacent dance music thrown in there for good measure. Their cool grooves and vocal harmonies all call back the vibes of the vintage period of rock, but the duo also have a way of updating the original sipping-margaritas-at-the-beach vibes to a time when the cell phone also happens to be within an arm's reach at all times. Not exactly angsty by any means, but not too sunshiney loose and relaxed either. The music is often upbeat and playful, consistently exuding a sense of joy. It is also noteworthy that the songs come with a certain sense of humor, which fits right in with the lightness of their sound.
