Orville Peck

Orville Peck is a pseudonym that some unknown singer-songwriter uses in his work as a country music artist. His most distinctive physical feature may be the fringed mask he wears, but musically, it has to be that baritone that sounds like the reincarnation of the great Roy Orbison, down to his signature vocal tremolo. He pursues mostly a conventional style, lovingly recreating the classic country tones with a lot of attention to details. That said, every now, and then he steps outside the script to throw in musical references to post-punk/goth (the vocals on Turn to Hate, the guitar on Buffalo Run) just enough to add a somewhat contemporary twist to his music. Completing the Orville Peck mystique is his openness about being a gay cowboy and the queer themes running through his songs.
