Meridian Brothers

 Meridian Brothers is a band led by Colombian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eblis Álvarez, except in studio recordings, all of which he handles on his own. He works primarily in cumbia and vallenato styles, but approaches them from an experimental angle, bringing a retro-futurist sound to these traditions with '80s electronic instruments and a psychedelic edge. He has humorous and playful ways of pushing the envelope, like a child who's having fun pressing buttons in an elevator. And the music ends up going to all kinds of unexpected places. His attention has turned to a more stripped down, conventional forms of music in recent years, though he still maintains a similar level of irreverence, including occasional collaborations with fictional bands, as was the case in their 2022 album Meridian Brothers & El Grupo Renacimiento.
