Liiek
Outline
Liiek is a band whose work is a throwback to an early form of post-punk that sits in that transition period and shares a number of common features with punk. This is the sound that emerged at the end of the '70s as seen in the initial releases of bands like Wire and Gang of Four before they left their minimalist approach in favor of a more layered and rounded off style. Liiek's music is raw, with plenty of rough edges. It is built on a propulsive straight beat that plays out at a high tempo, in tandem with a pulsating bass line, and a guitar that adds the song's main theme when it is not bursting into a fireball. The band captures the primal nature of that particular style that has not lost its punch over the years.
