Les Savy Fav was a band that sat between artsy punk and post-hardcore back in the '90s. They played in high levels of volume, aggression, and wit, combined with a special care for the craft of song construction. Stylistically, they came across as part Pixies, part Fugazi. As they moved to the '00s, their riffs opened up more, grooves become more central, their arrangements sharpened, their melodic structure and how they play around it became more sophisticated and stylistic. Between the angular guitars, funky bass and drums, and staccato vocals drifting ever so slightly towards speak singing, they currently appear to be within a distant orbital range of post-punk as well, especially in the sense of some of the work The Fall did in the mid '90s and '00. Singer Tim Harrington's exuberant stage performances are a part of the band's lore that developed over the years.
