Koffee is Mikayla Simpson, a Jamaican pop artist and a singer-songwriter who works primarily in the reggae style, with frequent excursions into dancehall. Her reggae is not the old school lo-fi reggae with an underground flavor though. It is the more modern version that comes with a high level of polish, robust R&B influences, and an ear attuned to various pop trends coming out of West Africa these days. The overall sound is very much in the same wheelhouse as most mainstream pop but with some singjaying and a strong Caribbean feel that blends in with her music, built on reggae and other regional beats. The way her music straddles the two worlds, combined with her popularity may prove to be a jumping point for many fans to embrace the joys of the genre in their own way, on their own terms.
