julie is a trio that puts two of the most prominent musical trends of the '90s into a blender and pushed the button to create a shoegaze 'n' grunge smoothie. They keep the overall haziness and moodiness of shoegaze, and some of the signature wall of distortion effects, but incorporate a grunge style drum attack (hello Dave Grohl) while the bursts of guitar also tap into that classic grunge energy. The result is a fairly potent cocktail of angst that is made even more attractive by the band's ability to implant memorable melodic phrases inside that noise, and give it an overall pop-adjacent sheen that also feels like a throw back to the classic alt-rock sound of the same era. Dual vocalists Brady and Pourzand swap leading duties and build harmonies effectively.
