JJUUJJUU

JJUUJJUU is guitarist, singer, songwriter Phil Pirrone and whoever he is playing with at the time. He combines hazy psychedelia with rolling krautrock rhythms, particularly echoing the classic work of Can. The music is often instrumental, or at least it feels all instrumental since Pirrone's vocals are mixed below the instruments as if he is singing behind a heavy curtain. That pushes the spotlight on his swirly guitars and the woozy, atmospheric drone he conjures up, along with the artsy noise he builds around him. His sound tracks closer to darker tones and uses repetition and hypnotic grooves driven by his sprawling guitar as the engine, rather than going down on a trippy road.
