Islandman

Islandman is the brainchild of producer, multi-instrumentalist Tolga Böyük, whose eclectic taste has been the driving force of the trio's work thus far, constructing electronic dance music that draws from various ethnographic sources. Their primary inspiration has been the band's native Turkey by far, but they also reach out to other musical corners around the world (Morocco, Mali, Indonesia, Ecuador, so on), not to mention the exotic lands of the European club scene.  It is vibrant work with strong beats and melodies that may come across as odd and unfamiliar at some level, but the band's affectionate approach wins over quickly. Some of their musical references are samples, others are recreations. Böyük's production is fairly sophisticated and the band manages to walk a fine line without getting carried away with the novelty of their music.
