HAAL

HAAL (allcaps) is a post-rock band with a dark and tense edge that also borrows lightly though frequently from post-hardcore, noise and math rock for a decorative effect. They have a musical lineage that seems to go back to Slint in terms of their temperament, arpeggiated guitar interludes, creative use of odd time signatures, and to some extent, vocalist Alfie Hay's murmured delivery. There is also an explosive side to the band that is reserved typically for dramatic moments and transitions, and that adds more hairpin turns to their music, not to mention an overall sense of weight that has metal-like qualities.
