Flat Worms is a power trio that is pretty much garage rock royalty given that the members had worked with acts like Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, The Babies, and Bridez prior to forming the band. Their music comes with a generous serving of rough edges and guitar fuzz as one would expect. It is energetic and often loud, with a touch of very early post-punk classics peeking behind the curtain, especially the Pink Flag period Wire and the bolder and more aggressive sound that The Fall returned to periodically (also note Will Ivy's half ranting style of vocals). Their earlier albums were more punk-ish and steeped deeper into the world of noise, but they pulled back a little on 2020's Antarctica. All members are terrific in their instruments and they come across as such. Ivy is a scorcher on the guitar, Tim Hellman is the throbbing heartbeat, and Justin Sullivan pounds the foundations down on all four corners.
