Enrique Campos is a Buenos Aires based artist who has a contemporary take on tango music while preserving most of its crucial ingredients. Instead of creating hybrid forms and bridging tango with other genres, he does this by stretching the boundaries of what is already a part of tango. He also performs with a rock flair that is a bit on the glam side, and brings out the equivalent of the sultry lounge jazz. His music retains conventional tango rhythms, melodic flow, and instrumentation: the accordion and the piano is front and center with acoustic guitar as the accompaniment. His stylistic envelope pushing makes for a fascinating listen, and perhaps also dancing experience if tango is your thing.
Devotchka, tango, traditional music with a twist.
He sang with the band La 154 before going solo.
An eye opening experience for those of us who did not grow up with tango music in our daily lives.
