Endea Owens
Outline
Raised in the Detroit jazz scene and the Juilliard School of Music, Endea Owens is a bass player and composer with a nimble playing style and an affinity towards the hard bop style on a typical day. She is a masterful performer on the instrument, frequently appearing in the line-up of some major pop and jazz artists. Her commanding presence on the upright bass, plus her energetic and powerful delivery, might bring Charles Mingus to mind. She has a similar flair, stylistically, and tends to prefer a relatively rich orchestral feel and an uptempo flow on her own work, in a similar vein. Her 2025 album with Juicy J incorporates hip-hop highlights into her music.
Lakecia Benjamin, Jaron Marshall, Isiah Collier
She has been a regular member of the house band of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, now renamed Louis Cato and the Great Big Joy Machine.
She has played with a number of major stars along the way, including Jon Baptiste, Solange, Diana Ross, and Wynton Marsalis, among others.
