Empress Of is moniker used by singer-songwriter Lorely Rodriguez, an artist who produces dance oriented music that is part upbeat synth pop, part house inspired club music. She uses a lot of sports arena-ready big pop elements in her music but with some restraint: her big choruses come close to being fully anthemic but do not seem to take that last step; she also makes good use of the four-on-the-floor beat but does not run away with it, instead she chooses to counter balance it with syncopated Latin beats. Some of this could be seen as remnants of her earlier, more adventurous sound that drew from Björk influences as she explored boundaries of R&B. Good examples of this can be found in her 2015 debut album, Me, as well as her initial single releases that captured her in a headspace akin to Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser.
