Elephant Gym

Taiwanese trio Elephant Gym (aka 大象體操) started out as a math rock band in the mid '10s and garnered recognition with their work. They soon turned to a jazz style with fusion tones, something that was always a part of their music going back to their debut album Angle (2015) that gradually became more central to their sound. They have also had a much softer and melodic touch even when they were at their mathiest early on, and that was another feature of their sound that became more prominent over time. The level of musicianship displayed by all three members is top-notch across the board, starting with bass player KT Chang, who is the focal point of the group and a phenomenal talent. There is no drop off when it comes to her brother Tell Chang on the guitar or drummer Tu Chia-Chin either.
