Durand Jones and the Indications are proud purveyors of fine, old-timey soul with a kind of adherence to the vintage sound that separates them from most modern neo-soul artists. They check every box that makes the original '60s version so distinctive: the rich harmonics, the horns, the organ, the slow jam, the mid-tempo grooving, the occasional falsetto... Their first album incorporates the classic rhythm 'n blues sound as well. The band is led by the titular Durand Jones on vocals, with Aaron Frazer, the drummer, also sharing some of the lead vocal duties. On their third album, they almost took the next historical step in their music and fully embraced a strong disco driven sound (with that string section, the "waka waka" guitar sound, the whole nine yards) without completely parting with their soul base.
