Songs
Dirty Projectors
Outline
Dirty Projectors is a band that has been around since the early '00s, with singer-guitarist David Longstreths as the only constant in the line-up along the way. Their music runs a range of styles, from the artsier edges of indie rock to orchestral chamber pop and a bit of folk, often put together with an ear towards classic prog ideas about songs having an internal narrative. There is a choral quality in their vocal harmonies that permeates their catalog, benefitting quite a bit from all the top-notch vocalists who have been going through the band's turnstiles over the years. At the center of it all is, of course, Longstreths himself, the main songwriting force who pushes for a sound that is both choppy, proggy, angular, and tight, as well as serene, poppy, and melodic at the same time, with multiple forces pulling his songs in different directions simultaneously.
