Dashboard Confessional
Outline
Dashboard Confessional is one of the early break-out stars of the '00s emo scene, as well as arguably one of the more widely recognized names in the genre. It started as singer/songwriter Chris Carraba's outlet for his acoustic and personal songs outside his band at the time, Further Seems Forever. By his third album, Carraba had brought in other musicians to turn it into a full band. A lot of what later become definitional to the classic emo sound can be found especially in their early recordings: the plaintive, higher register vocals singing lyrics of hurt and heartache that tend to drive the totality of the music more often than nor, as well as the stop and go dynamics, soaring, shouty choruses etc. They took a break between 2011 and 2018, and then came back with new music that was still fairly close to their original work, though maybe a bit on the mellower side.
Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, Straylight Run, Something Corporate
Practically an emo institution.
Carraba was a member of Further Seems Forever.
