Damon Locks
Outline
Damon Locks is a Chicago based vocalist, composer with an eclectic taste in music and a strong experimental, avant-garde impulse. His music does not fit into any given genre label, freely borrowing from Afro-futurism, jazz, Caribbean sounds, gospel, soul, rock, and hip-hop and molding them into a collage of experiences, using electronic music as the connective tissue between them. He is fairly partial to spoken word performances in his solo work, as well as found audio, whether in the form of a conversational snippet or quick excerpts from a radio broadcast, Locks has mastery over sonic scene-building by combining multiple threads in ways that give his words broader resonance.
He started out as the vocalist for the post-hardcore band the band Trenchmouth in the '90s, a band that also sported a young Fred Armissen in its line-up.
He is currently also a member of the Black Monument Ensemble and Exploding Star Orchestra.
