Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird

Melbourne-based indie pop band Cousin Tony's Brand New Firebird, aka CTBNF (and yes, Australian band names is a thing these days) is led by singer-songwriter Lachlan Rose, whose calm vocals are matched by the band's patient approach that lets the songs play themselves out on their own pace. The songs have nice hooks without relying on catchy phrases or riffs. Stylistically there is some folk in their music, sometimes with a hint of bossa nova. The band is solid as performers. Rose is especially comfortable on the low register on the lead vocals. Keyboardist Fransesca Gonzales not only contributes quite a bit to the band's overall sound, but also provides outstanding backing vocals.
