Bush Tetras is a band that started in New York's post-punk/no wave scene in the '80s and '90 and quietly created a remarkable catalog through their long but intermittent career working between their multiple bouts of splits and reformations. Their fan base never expanded beyond a niche over the years. They lost two of their their long time members in the process: drummer Dee Pop (2021) and bassist Laura Kennedy (2011). That said, they were historically one of the early adopters of dissonance, dub, and African beats, and to this day, they stand out with their use of complex, funky bass lines, Pat Place's angular noise on the guitar, and Cynthia Sley's powerful voice that soars above it all. Their songwriting became crisper and more mature as the members aged, but their music never lost any of its edginess. Quite a bit of their early work is available through re-issues and compilations.
