Brother Dege was Dege Legg, a guitar and dobro player, singer-songwriter who passed away in the March of 2024 (as this article was beginning to shape). He produced work that mixed traditional country with gothic blues and some roots rock at his corner of the world in Lafayette, Louisiana. There was plenty of a swampy feel in his playing style, and his affinity for delta blues expressed itself regularly in his slide guitar work. His music often had a contemplative tone. He explored a psychedelic sound in his earlier albums, which came to dissipate over the years. A lifetime spent in the margins of the society also found its way into his songs, while his smokey and a gravelly voice captured in his recordings still hints at an artist who has had his own share of darkness. His final album, Aurora (2024) was released posthumously.
